What is a log book service? A log book service is a scheduled service carried out according to the maintenance requirements specified by your vehicle manufacturer. Depending on your vehicle's age, kilometres travelled and servicing interval, this can include changing engine oil and filters, checking fluids, inspecting brakes, steering and suspension components, checking belts and hoses and completing other manufacturer-specified maintenance. How often does my car need a log book service? The recommended interval varies between manufacturers and models. Your vehicle may require servicing after a certain number of kilometres, a set period of time, or whichever comes first. Following the recommended schedule helps ensure important maintenance isn't overlooked simply because you haven't driven many kilometres. Do I have to take my new car back to the dealership for servicing? Generally, no. You can choose a qualified independent mechanic to carry out your vehicle's scheduled servicing. At Active Motor Repairs, we follow the relevant manufacturer's servicing specifications and use appropriate quality parts, fluids and lubricants when completing log book servicing. Always check the specific terms of any additional or extended warranty or servicing plan you have purchased, as these may have separate conditions. Can Active Motor Repairs service my new car? Yes. Our qualified team can provide log book and new car servicing for a wide range of makes and models. We have access to up-to-date service information and our technicians undertake ongoing training to stay informed about modern vehicle servicing and repair requirements. Will you stamp my vehicle's log book? Yes. When we complete the required log book service, we can update your vehicle's service record to provide evidence that the scheduled maintenance has been completed. Depending on the vehicle, service records may be physical or electronic. What happens during a log book service? The exact work depends on the manufacturer's schedule for your particular vehicle and service interval. Rather than providing exactly the same service every visit, we follow the scheduled requirements for your vehicle. Different intervals may require additional inspections, fluid changes, filters, spark plugs or other maintenance items. Is a log book service the same as a general car service? Not necessarily. A log book service follows the specific maintenance schedule provided by your vehicle manufacturer. A general service may involve routine maintenance such as replacing engine oil and the oil filter and inspecting key vehicle components, but it may not necessarily correspond with a particular manufacturer service interval. If you're unsure which service your vehicle needs, speak with our team and we can help determine the appropriate option. What if I've missed my scheduled service? If your vehicle is overdue, it's best to arrange a service as soon as practical rather than waiting until the next scheduled interval. Delayed servicing can mean worn components, deteriorated fluids or other maintenance issues go unnoticed for longer. Let our team know that the vehicle is overdue and we can assess its servicing requirements. Can regular log book servicing help my car's resale value? A complete service history can be valuable when it comes time to sell or trade your vehicle. Being able to demonstrate that your car has received regular scheduled maintenance can provide prospective buyers with additional information about how the vehicle has been cared for. Do you service different makes and models? Yes. Active Motor Repairs provides servicing for a wide range of vehicle makes and models from our Craigieburn workshop. Whether you drive a family car, SUV, 4WD, diesel vehicle or work vehicle, speak with our team about your servicing requirements. Why is regular log book servicing important? Regular scheduled servicing isn't only about ticking a box in your service book. It provides an opportunity to maintain your vehicle and identify developing problems before they potentially become more expensive repairs. Keeping up with servicing can help maintain your vehicle's: Reliability Safety Performance Fuel efficiency Service history Resale value

Engines that operate through internal combustion rely on large amounts of clean air to ensure the fuel burns properly and generates the power needed to drive the vehicle. At Active Motor Repairs in Craigieburn, we understand how vital it is to keep your car's air filter in good condition as part of protecting your engine's health. Your engine requires extremely clean air to function efficiently. Dirt, dust, and other particles entering the engine can cause serious damage. That’s where the air filter comes into play. It ensures the air entering the combustion chambers is clean, shielding key engine components such as the pistons and cylinders from wear and damage. Why Replace Your Air Filter? Save on Fuel Costs: Your engine requires the correct balance of fuel and air to run efficiently. A clogged air filter restricts airflow, causing your engine to run inefficiently – often referred to as ‘running rich.’ This not only puts additional stress on your engine but can also increase fuel consumption by up to 10%. No one likes spending more on petrol than necessary! Protect Your Engine: Over time, air filters become clogged and weaker, increasing the risk of damage. A damaged or overly dirty air filter can allow harmful particles to enter the engine, potentially leading to expensive repairs. Benefits of Replacing Your Air Filter: Extends the life of your engine Improves fuel efficiency Reduces vehicle emissions At Active Motor Repairs, we always check the condition of your air filter during every full car service. Whether it’s a major or minor service, or one that follows your manufacturer’s handbook or logbook guidelines, you can trust us to keep your engine running smoothly.

Keep your engine healthy with clean air filters. Improve fuel efficiency, reduce emissions, and extend engine life. Visit Active Motor Repairs for expert maintenance and reliable car servicing.

Your vehicle’s braking system is one of the most critical safety components on the road. Whether you’re driving around town or on the highway, your brakes must perform reliably every time you press the pedal. But like all parts of your car, brake components wear out over time. Recognising the early warning signs can save you money, prevent further damage, and most importantly—keep you safe. Here are 7 clear signs your brakes may need replacing. 1. Squealing or Screeching Noise When Braking One of the most common early warning signs is a high-pitched squealing sound when you apply the brakes. Most brake pads are designed with a built-in wear indicator that creates this noise when the pads are getting thin. If you hear squealing regularly, it’s time to have your brakes inspected. 2. Grinding Noise (Serious Warning) If your brakes are making a grinding or growling sound, this is a serious issue. Grinding usually means the brake pads are completely worn out, and metal is rubbing against metal. This can damage your brake discs and lead to much more expensive repairs—get it checked immediately. 3. Vibration or Pulsing When Braking Feeling a vibration through the brake pedal or steering wheel when braking? This often indicates warped brake discs or uneven wear, which reduces braking performance and control. Don’t ignore this—your stopping ability may already be compromised. 4. Reduced Braking Performance If your car is taking longer to stop or doesn’t feel as responsive, your brakes may be worn. Common causes include: Worn brake pads Contaminated brake fluid General brake system wear Reduced braking power is a major safety risk and should be addressed straight away. 5. Soft or Spongy Brake Pedal A soft, spongy, or sinking brake pedal is never normal. This could indicate: Air in the brake lines A brake fluid leak Failing components in the braking system If your pedal feels different, have your vehicle inspected immediately. 6. Car Pulling to One Side When Braking Does your vehicle pull left or right when braking? This may be caused by: Uneven brake pad wear A sticking caliper Brake fluid issues Not only does this affect braking performance, but it can also make your vehicle unsafe to control. 7. Brake Warning Light on Your Dashboard If your brake warning light comes on, don’t ignore it. This could indicate: Low brake fluid Worn brake pads A fault in the braking system A warning light is your car telling you something needs urgent attention. Why You Shouldn’t Delay Brake Repairs Ignoring brake issues can lead to: Increased stopping distances Damage to discs and calipers Higher repair costs Serious safety risks Early detection and maintenance can save you money and help avoid dangerous situations on the road. Need Brake Replacement or Inspection? If you’ve noticed any of these warning signs, it’s time to get your brakes checked by a professional. At Active Motor Repairs, our experienced technicians can: Inspect your full braking system Replace worn brake pads and discs Ensure your vehicle is safe and roadworthy Book your brake inspection today!
